Logo Generation/Development

Coming up with this logo was honestly pretty fun. I pictured in my head simple icon type graphic that incorporates the elements the Tute’s protect things from, along with the environments they’re going to be used in - essentially water, snow & dirt. The picture below with screen shots of the PowerPoint preview window that I used as my digital scratch pad to come up with, literally shows my generation process that took place - essentially 6 slides. I had pictured in my head a water droplet with the tip as a mountain and a snowflake in the center, but wasn’t sure how that’d all jive together. I started just looking at simple graphics of each element individually and picked the ones I liked and use the snip function in Windows to clip, stretch, and stack the different options I preferred until zeroing in on what appealed to me personally. No fancy photo programs for the generation process, just good ol Microsoft Windows.

Initially I wasn’t totally sure how things would all mesh together in terms of line thickness, proportions, empty or too busy, does it seem balanced etc. I’m pretty pumped how it turned out, feel it’s got some sharpness to it, visually appealing and relates directly to the core of the brand.

Lakehood, Alaska This is the view of the front range of the Chugach Mtns where we park Charlie (the floatplane) Perfect example showing the 3 elements I wanted to include in the logo - Water, Snow, & Mtns!

One of my favorite logos out there from another brand is probably the Volcom Stone logo and how that gets incorporated on the tips of sponsored athletes surfboards, on their softs good in random spots on their soft goods like cuffs and hoods where logos aren’t typically placed. I’ve always loved that about the brand and standing back and looking at what I came up with, makes me grin a little bit, because I do feel there may be some influence there.

On the current business front I’ve been looking at which upcoming tradeshows to attend and all the things that I need to get together for these kind of events. I also postponed a trip down to the manufacturing facility this week since Montana was forecasted to have something like -40F with -60F windchill. Also doesn’t help that air travel (at least with AK Airline mileage tickets) is still a little clogged up still due to the Max 9 groundings. Give things another week and see if things line up a bit better. Getting excited to get to see these things get churned out! We’re over halfway done with the first production run.
