We’re on the board - We have a design!
August 25, 2023
I’m super excited to be able to share some images of the final design. There’s been a lot of iterations, I honestly haven’t been able to keep track of the evolution from the beginning. I want to say I sat down at the computer around March 2022 and started trying to remember the basics of CAD - Literally started from ground zero, trying to remember the basics of axis and plane orientation, how to extrude a shapes, it was a little rough at first.
While technically I am an enginerd, I haven’t dabbled in any kind of CAD software since my early undergrad 13+ years ago. It’s remarkable all the information on the internet today on which programs to use, video tutorials, etc. Super grateful for all the resources out there. It was quite overwhelming on which program to go with, so many choices and opinions on which is the best. The options range from free web-based softwares all the way up to design industry standards where you could literally design and build a space shuttle. I went the basic route and went with a free web-based software for starting out. The two primary reasons being:
1. the amount of time it would take to get proficient enough with a higher end software I may still be lost in the woods trying figure out how to draw a 3D object
2. the costs for industry standard software was more than I could justify at the time for stage the stage the idea was at.
I’m not trying to talk folks out of using those higher end softwares or talk down on them, they absolutely have their place and I encountered complications down the design path due to the limitations of the simple web based programs that would’ve been avoided had I gone the space shuttle route. Like everything in life there are pro’s and con’s and those have to be considered prior to making a decision, there’s never a golden arrow will do everything perfectly.
I’ll get into the design process in a later entry. Today I wanted to share images of the final design, that way you know what we’re going to be producing. I’m quite happy with how it turned out and have a bunch of ideas for things to come…
